Contextual advertising is a new form of media advertising which has recently been developed due to the increase in online activity within the economy and society. Advertising has been around for many years and as it moved into a technological area it soon became a massive marketing tool for many online sectors of the business economy. Contextual advertising was developed from a strategy for marketing products and services through advertisement banners on web pages.
Different ways of paying for the adverts have evolved and with companies such as Google Adsense pioneering the way forward there became two main ways CPC and CPM. CPC or cost per click uses built in links on the advertisement banners to redirect customers to another website; this is a straight forward way of capturing an audience and bringing a product to their attention, companies pay for every unique IP address that comes through the link whether or not they buy a product. CPM or cost per mile (thousand) uses a different technique where every time a page is loaded up the company advertisement is seen and therefore a small fee is paid for the advertisement space for every thousand times the advert is loaded. This requires a high traffic and is not targeted to specific customer bases.
Contextual advertisement takes the responsibility of human interaction out of the process and automatically targets advertisements to certain websites depending on the keywords available. This removes the costs associated with both untargeted ads and the need for human labour hours. Contextual advertising can put adverts on thousands of web pages per day all of them specifically targeted to the type of customer base the company would like to attract. IBOD search.com uses contextual advertising methods within its advertising engine in order to lower the costs to both you and us, and provide a larger return on all adverting traffic.
